Upanishad

Upanishad, one of four genres of texts that together constitute each of the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of most Hindu traditions. The literal meaning of upanishad, "sitting near devotedly,"The Upanishads are the supreme work derived from veda.

The Upanishads are important Shruti scriptures of Hinduism. These are integral parts of Vedic Kalamayi. The nature and relationship of these Gods, God-Brahma and soul have been given a very philosophical and knowledgeable description.

Knowledge of importance was given to the Upanishads by calling rituals 'inferior' because knowledge leads from the gross to the subtle.) Knowledge of Brahm, Jiva and Jagat is the basic teaching of the Upanishads. The Bhagavad Gita and the Brahmasutra together with the Upanishads are called the 'departures' of Vedanta.
